The blog of the 30-something fag- August 2005

America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.
--Abraham Lincoln

I can picture in my mind a world without war, a world without hate. And I can picture us attacking that world, because they'd never expect it.

Oh, just this one last thing
I have been on the road for a few weeks, so I know I am out of the loop, and a little late on the upswing of this. Thank God for my friend Micah McCane and his blog shutupIknow or I would hve missed this wonderfully tastey treat!

Pat Robertson calls for the assasination of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.

Yup, I know, really, it's true, it's all right here!

Now I don't dare call myself a Christian, but from the little I know of Jesus(the original Christian, like Christian Mr. #1) he never called for the assasination of anybody. It wasn't his style. This Robertson fellow claims to represent J.C.'s ideals, and preaches them for everybody on TV.
Now to my knowledge, killing someone . . .hmmm . . . isn't there a commandment opposing that? I dunno, but I think so. I think secular society even went so far as to put it on the books as a crime. Whatever the rules are, seems this Venezuelan guy has gotten Mr. Robertson's Panties in a real wad, and he needs to check himself.

Just a thought!

Home again, again
This year I have been from San Diego to San Juan, Baltimore to Buffalo, Charlotte to Charlton flats and as Judy Garland said it, their aint no place like home. I am so glad to be back in L.A for the west-coast version of a heat wave (it is so NOT a heatwave) and I am thrilled to be back among the living.
After spending sso much time in other peoples homes,it's so nice to beack in mine, and I have new energy and enthusiams to tackle the 3 yard-long to-do list I have compiled since I have gone in on this house with Bang.
First things first, finish the blog!!

The Road Most Travelled
Heat. To sum up the last three das of this road trip I can use but one word; HEAT!
Whose idea was it to travel throough the southwest deserts in August anyway?
Me?
I must have suffered a stroke.

Bang and I made the best of it with Margarita parties, and pickign campgrounds that boasted swimming pools.
We really did see some of the most beautiful scenery ever, and since the school year started around the 21st, we were virtually alone in these glorius parks.

Is it hot in here?

Just as we passed into the big hair state (AKA Texas) we noticed two things.
1. We were finally heading in a direction that was primarily west, FINALLY! We knew this because the sun was beaming through the bay window that is our windshield and . . .
2. It was gettin a little HOT.
Now mind you, when we left Carthage New York on the 8th we knew what muggy was, and we haven't gotten any relief from Boston, Baltimore or Birmingham Alabama, but this was gettin a bit uncomfortable. In a matter of miles within the perimeter of the Musk-by-Mennin State line we realized our air cornditioner was essentially crapping the bed. This sent us into a spiralling torrent straight to hell. I was soaking my seatback, and slowly unraveling into quite possibly the crankiest bitch I've ever manifested before or since. Not to worry, this problem had a solution and it was (like all things Texan) a big'un. $1,200 worth of "condensor, oil cooler and Fan" was all it took, that and 6 days of waiting to get our rig back online and headin' west again. In the days that passed we visited with Uncle Larry, Aunt Patty, Cousin Ruth and her husband Jens and their three daughters: Annika, Alix and Tessa. We really had a great time with these people, they've always been important folksin my life and spending 6 days with them in their beautiful home was a well savored treat for me.
The dog "Blacky" was a big hit too for us, because we were really missing Rusty and Mickey by this time.
I
lost Isaac to his Soccer team at home, and aquired Bang as my new sidekick and navigator. The road just got a little more adult- weeeeeeeeee~

Charlotte NC
Heading Even further into what is currently still considered the "Shallow South", these are areas of the country that were on the losing side of the civil war technically, but today still resemble the U.S. we tend to think of as greater metropolitan and warm suburbian. Many of the people in Charlotte do not even practice the lost art of "Drawling" anymore. I felt quite at home here with my high-school buddy and his family.

On our approach to Charlotte we were practically drowned in a seasonal downpour the likes of which I have never seen. I took a shower before this and didn't get as wet. The thunder we felt in the floor of our rig, the lightening took our vision away for a moment. People in their cars were pulled over beneath the underpasses two cars wide on the shoulder, the freeway started looking like a parking lot. It took us 2 hours to go 30 miles to Jeffs house and the skylight in the kitchen was leaking water like Niagara falls(another trip- see May o5). It was a mess to clean up.When we got to Jeff's, he handed me a blue tarp and I climbed the rickety ladder on the RV to try and cover up what by all rights should have been a gaping hole the way the water was coming in. I saw nothing..
We stayed one night in the driveway and drove away early the next morning for Lisa and Steve and Atmore Alabama. The one col thing was that the RV was now very clean, the rain came down so hard it took the bugs right off the windshield.

Happy Birthday Mom
I Can't say I went half the month without updating the blog, but almost.
Today is my Mothers 71st birthday, and I called in to say Hello and her house was full of aunts and Uncles. Mom could not pass up the opportunity to pass me around to say Hello to all of 'em. It broke my heart.
Today I'm dispatching from a campground in Southern North Carolina. A beautiful pine-filled campground on a tiny lake. I'm writing from the table in the RV as my nephew Isaac reads his book outside in the fresh air.

I'm using a new Verizon Wireless PC card to connect to the internet(often at high speeds) and it is totally compatable with my Powerbook G4 laptop. I'm extremely happy. Get yours at www.EVDO.com

Today we're visiting Bang's Phamily in Washington DC area and having fun as usual. It is hot as hell and as humid as a _______ in ___ on a ______'s ______.
It's pretty humid just about everywhere right now and I'm lovin hatin it!

New Bedford Mass.
Wally took Isaak and I to a Boston Red Sox Game, that was a blast to say the least! I am so glad we did that- what a hoot. it has taken a lot of the pressure off from my remote workload this week.I was hired moments before I left Los Angeles for a web design job that I wasn't supposed to get. Trying to work and travel at the same time is daunting, however, it pays to do it. The IRS provides Americans with a daily Per Diem allowance off of their income tax for every day their working on the road, and with the amount of work I'm doing now, I'm practically on the governent payroll- Thank You Tax Advisors!!.

On the Road Again

Left Los Angeles Via Jet Blue for New York with Cousin Jay. We're both Spending a week in Carthage before the big family reunion on the 7th.
We were picked up at the airport but cousin reverend Michael, Aunt Marge, Jim and Paulas son Chad.Jan Phillips drove our Fleetwood RV across the U.S. in May on a tour for her new book Divining the Body , and she left the rig at my folks place on the Black river and flew home from Syracuse. I'll be taking the keys and driving the rig back to California leaving the 8th wit neephew Isaac Bushey. I intend to drive to the homes of all the people I have been promising to visit over the years, but never mmade it to. It promises to be a fantastic adventure for Isaac and me, and Bbang will be meeting us in Houston at Uncle Larry and Aunt Pat's place and travelling the rest of the way home with us.
