During AIDS/Lifecycle 6, the Los Angles Gay and Lesbian center proposed and outreach effort to encourage riders and roadies to remember what the ride is all about. In an attempt to bring AIDS awareness back to the forefront of the largest and most successful fundraising event in our history, the HERO PROJECT was launched. 18 riders were selected to represent The HERO SQUAD and saddled with a unique and important mission: to promote HIV awareness and prevention to all of the 2,500 riders of ALC 6. Armed with the HERO CREED printed on 1800 red bandanas The HERO PROJECT was unleashed into the ALC community and quickly became an unprecedented success.
